College Style

Continuing my Back to School series, I decided to do a College “lookbook” not necessarily complete outfits, but this will give you some ideas on what to wear for Casual Days as well as Social Events. In college there really isn’t a dress code. Just don’t show up to class in your “Birthday Suit” and you should be ok. College is the time to experiment with fashion, get creative and step out of your comfort zone. I wish you guys could see what I dressed like when I was a freshman. Y’all would be like “Now Brittany, why do you look like a hot mess?!!” I’ve come a LONGGG way since then. Thank God!

First day of school outfit

Lets get  started. Although it’s still summer, fall is right around the corner. So I put together some pieces that could be mixed and matched to suit the summer/fall weather.

Flats/Sandals are a MUST in college, because walking around in heels or wedges all day is a no go. Ain’t nobody got time for that hunny!

A good light weight cardigan is essential for those days you want to look put together without looking like you tried too hard. A cardigan with a pair leggings and a tank top is the good way to go.

You can never go wrong with jeans whether their ripped or skinny. Jeans go with everything!

Slouchy t shirts are my absolute fav. Paired with some jeans and converse and you’re good to go.

Leggings for those days when you really don’t feel like dressing up, throw on some leggings with a cute t-shirt or the slouchy grey t-shirt shown above and you’ll look put together without looking like a bum.

Some sort of button down, two examples: Blue Jean and Flannel. Blue jean tops have really become a trend this year. Pair this with jeans or leggings and it still looks great. Also flannels are good for those cooler days, plus they look great with a slouchy top and jeans or leggings. They also look cool worn around the waist.

Whether your going to a mixer, club meeting, SGA event you should dress to impress. Remember someone is always watching, so you might as well give them something to look at!

Heels are a must (well at least for me they are) If you are not comfortable with heels by all means where some cute flats or sandals. The shoes shown above are examples of the things I personally like to wear when I want to make a  statement at social events.

You can never go wrong with a blazer. A blazer can easily take an outfit from boring to chic in 0.2 seconds. The faux fur blazer with the black jumpsuit would look great together.

A nice pair of cropped pants are a great way to go if you’re not comfortable wearing dresses or skirts, or maybe you just want to go for the more casual look.

Button down blouses are my favorite. You can go from business to super chic within a few seconds. For example: You could pair the black and white stripe button down with the cropped pants and pointy toe heels.. I’m just getting excited thinking about it. (Yup I’m wearing an outfit similar to this for an event on campus tomorrow!)

A nice dress is a must have for social events. If you’re not comfortable wearing a dress, go back to the blouse and cropped pants suggestion.

Fur, ah I love fur! (Faux fur that is!) Now that fall is around the corner I can finally bring out my fur jackets and coats. If you’re feeling a bit daring try wearing a fur jacket or coat. I guarantee all eyes will be on you. Example: Pair the black faux fur blazer with the jumpsuit and the peep toe pump or pointy toe heels and you will have a killer outfit!

A jumpsuit, playsuit or whatever you want to call it, is also great for social events. For one you don’t have to spend hours on deciding what you want to wear and two it’s really effortless while making a statement. Throw on the  faux fur jacket with it and you’ll be sure to get complements the whole night. Trust me!

This is an awesome lookbook. I remember there were tons of people in college (esp freshman year) rocking sweats/pjs to class (I may have participated in this horrifying trend once or twice). This blog post should be a part of freshman orientation 🙂

Thank you! Oh gosh I was one of those freshman that wore sweat pants to class daily. It was not a good look, luckily I had friends that told me I looked like a hot mess haha. I do agree, there should definitely something like this should be apart of freshman orientation because they need it!
